Delivering solutions? Please don’t

4 good reasons to stop using ‘delivering solutions’ / ‘we deliver xyz solutions’ / ‘we’re passionate about delivering blah blah blah solutions’ in your LinkedIn headline or website or anywhere else for that matter*:

1. Talking about your business this way makes you sound like a weird corporate robot.

“Oh yes nice to meet you, I’m passionate about delivering innovation solutions, how about you?” Said no one, ever IRL (I hope).

Just say what you do in normal words, like you would down the pub – people’ll find it clearer / more interesting / be more likely to want to work with you, cause you’ll sound like a real, actual person.

And most people like people, more than they like robots.

➡️ Instead of saying:

Dave Bloggs
Delivering market leading telecoms solutions

➡️ Say:

Dave Bloggs
I sort people out with good phones

2. It’s been said so many times in so many businesses, you’ll be noticed for all the wrong reasons. For using cringy biz-speak rather than for the actual, brilliant stuff you can do.

Don’t blend in as part of the ‘delivering solutions brigade’. Stand out by not using that ridiculous kind of nothingy language.

➡️ Instead of saying:

Delivering bonding and labelling solutions since 1977

➡️ Say:

Helping people stick and label stuff since 1977

3. It’s the vaguest of vagueries. It doesn’t tell me what you actually do.

Tell me what you actually do.

➡️ Instead of saying:

Tabitha Pantaloons
Delivering innovative solutions

Say:

Tabitha Pantaloons
Brilliant designer of things / writer of words / recruiter of people / [insert the actual thing you do / job title here]

4. Both words are superfluous. They don’t add anything. They’re not big, or clever. They’re just clogging up your sentence (and doing damage to your business).

Edit those badboys out. Right now. I implore you.

➡️ Instead of saying:

Delivering marketing solutions to premier clients with exceptional results

Say:
Marketing that consistently gets better results

*Unless you’re a lorry driver working for a contact lens fluid company. Then it’s a brilliant pastiche. Well done. 👏
