You’re here…
…because you’re stuck on some words or
need some more of them in your life
And you’re a marketing or comms specialist in a
university or other business working in or around higher education (the kind of organisations we work with most).
You need copy that side steps the jargon, digs into your difference
and propels people towards action.
And you’d value a copywriter (or, even better, a whole team of them)
who can run with the words and get on with it.
Guess who ticks all those boxes? (That’ll be us).
Meet our writers
Jo, Founder and senior copywriter
A big advocate of plain English and an expert in tone of voice, particularly for higher education clients: Jo has spent the last 20+ years crafting copy for some of the UK’s leading universities, charities and businesses.
With over a thousand projects in her portfolio, she’s come up with the words to clearly explain everything from chemical engineering research to kids yoga and mindfulness.
Jo also heads up our writing team – scheduling projects, overseeing quality and keeping the work (and happy clients) flowing.
Away from her keyboard, Jo is most likely running amok with two little people, perusing a psychology book or attempting to get into Downward Dog.
Helen, Senior copywriter
Copywriter by day and dance teacher by night, Helen loves the challenge of finding words that land with the reader in just the right way, whether it’s to inform, pique interest or inspire decisive action.
Since the year 2000, she’s been helping global brands, sparkly start-ups, universities, utility companies, and local and national charities to find their voice and connect with the people who matter to them.
Helen lives in Bristol and is a mum of two noisy girls and a scruffy dog. When she’s not writing or dancing, she’s most likely to be out walking in the countryside or gliding along the local waterways on her paddle board, enjoying the peace and quiet.
David, Senior copywriter
Having cut his teeth in Manchester ad-land, David moved below-the-line and has been working as a copywriter for over 25 years. More and more of his time nowadays is spent writing for digital media, using words to create a joined-up and enjoyable user experience.
As well as the education sector, David has written copy for just about every type of client you can think of. His copy has won awards in London and New York.
David spends as much time as he can in Cornwall. When he’s not writing, you might catch him running (he doesn’t go fast).
Laura, Content specialist
Laura’s favourite thing is longform content. When you want to be the place your audience comes for knowledge, Laura will help you explain, explore and excite with blog posts, case studies, guides and articles.
Laura came to copywriting through a background in marketing. It means she understands your strategy, and creates content that delivers on it.
Away from her fountain pen (don’t worry, she knows her way round a keyboard too) you’ll probably find Laura eating a picnic on a family day out.
Dan, Senior copywriter
Coming to copywriting from a teaching and creative industries background, Dan has over a decade’s experience of demystifying complex topics, and helping readers understand ‘why should I care?’
Dan works on a myriad of copy projects, including course descriptions, case studies, and articles and thought leadership pieces on high-impact academic research.
When he isn’t writing for universities, Dan works with SaaS and third sector organisations.
Dan lives in a house by the sea with his cat, his wife, his kids, and too many guitars.
Matt, Senior copywriter
Over 30 years, most types of brief have crossed Matt’s desk. Tone of voice development for a national museum, product collateral for a luxury car marque, scriptwriting for a sweary chef, and a website for Europe’s largest ethical bank to name a few. Along the way, he’s won a few awards for his work, too.
Matt also has extensive experience running writing teams on large and short-notice projects for, among others, professional services firms, technology companies, and numerous universities.
Off the clock, you’ll find Matt wrangling two young boys, practising his Travis picking, sampling a fine wine, or walking the (steep) hills of South Wales.
Specialist resource
As well as the core team profiled here, we can bring in other trusted writers and specialists in brand, design, SEO, video and photography if we think it’ll help a project.
Team advantages
As a group, we’ll put forward the person with the most relevant wordy skills to work on your copy. And we can pool resources if a lot of writing needs to happen quickly.
Extra wriggle room
Like most experienced copywriters, we get booked up at least a few weeks ahead. But because there’s more than one of us, there’s usually a bit more flexibility. So if it’s urgent, give us a try and we’ll see what we can do to help.
Just to say that’s the best marketing copy I have ever received – absolutely to the brief – thanks very much!
